Ceramics Museum - Fornace Santangelo

It belonged to the family Santangelo, structure, in the local dialect "Stazzuni", It was used, for the production of bricks (shingles, coppi, bricks,gutters etc.) and clay products, as cookware, dishes and flasks, called Ciaschi, for which Salemi was renowned throughout the Belice Valley. La fornace conserva ancora la sua struttura originaria, proceeding from bottom to top, It is located: il vano interrato di alimentazione, arsu, giving access to the hearth, vanufocu, circular and vaulted roof, separato dalla camera di combustione, Furnari, by a perforated top, ddammusu. Finally, la cappa, cubbulina, terminating with the flue, ciminia. Attiguo alla fornace, there is unmagazzino with local, Pagliaia, dove il ceramista plasmava la ceramica ed alimentava il forno. Today, furnace, è gestita dal Gruppo archeologico Xaipe ed ospita all’interno i prodotti della fornace.
